In this paper, the current technology development of the rubber sealing profiles for aircraft applications in China is reviewed, including product structure, structure design, molding technology, material selection and airworthiness requirements. The gaps in our material research and development, structure design and product performance test are identiifed. Therefore, it is recommended to strengthen the implementation of the airworthiness requirements on the rubber sealing products and consolidate the alignment of fundamental research with end product requirements.

EPDM composites by intercalation are usually used as the sealing materials of especial containers because of its excellent aging and sealing properties.The shock-resistance of low temperature of EPDM intercalation composites was studied.By using the seal structure containing O-ring,the sealing properties of the O-ring of EPDM intercalation compos-ites in low temperature were studied by means of pressure observation of mechanical seal.The result shows that impact times of low temperature has no obvious effect on the hardness and elasticity of EPDM,and the sealing rings of EPDM/OM-MT intercalation composites have excellent sealing properties of low temperature at not more than -60 ℃.

For estimating the life of sealing products, based on the data of the accelerated life and the natural storage life of six rubbery sealing materials used in launch vehicles, including EPDM-8106 and CR-4103, the error between the accelerated life and the natural storage life is calculated, and the accuracy of the accelerated life prediction is evaluated. It is shown that the accelerated life method can be applied in the life prediction of rubber sealing materials.

To solve the leakage problem caused by seal shrinkage or poor compatibility between the lubricant and the rubber sealing materials,the rubber seal swell additives of sulfolane derivatives was studied.Three rubber seal swell addi-tives were prepared using isooctanol,n-decanol,dodecanol as raw materials to react with 3-sulfolene.Based on ASTM D471,the influence on elastomer compatibility was tested for three rubber seal swell additives in Groups Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ base oils.The results show that the rubber seal swell additives can effectively improve the shrinkage problem of sealing materi-als,and change the compatibility between the lubricant and the sealing materials.The short carbon chain seal swell additive possesses more excellent compatibility of sealing materials than the long carbon chain one.

The service environment of the rubber sealing materials for manned space and the re-quirement for materials ’ tolerance performance are introduced in this paper .To resistthe low tem-perature, vacuum, radiation and the material long-life, the adaptability to space environment of the materials is studied.The materials’ properties are evaluated with the ground environment simulation and accelerated aging test , and the test proves that the low temperature performance of materials isimproved by nano-modification, the S42 and FTBNR-1Y materials have a long-life if Storaged at room temperature , and S42 has a better adaptability to space environment .These sealing materials have been used in manned space successfully .The research of the composite structure of sealing ma-terials’ medium resistance is carried out .Studies have shown that materials ’ medium resistance can be improved through cladding technology .
