Hemingway has made a maxim hero to battle against the“heroto”, the loss of the traditional sense of vale and the chaotic world. Many critics hold that the“Maxim Hero”is a reflection of the character of firmness, courageousness and braveness, but in actuality, Hemingway-style heroes do not share the above-mentioned character, but the outlook on life and the world. Their life stories make them realize the absurdity and nothingness of life, but their firm faith in the basic rule “Remain gracious even under stress” encourages them to stand unyielding above nothingness in research of the axiom and the meaning of life. This paper has an in-depth analysis of the four novels to prove that the character of“Maxim Hero”is made in a self-repairing process and is meant to disclose its philosophical significance to modern people.
